More About Us

California ARA is a 501c3 non-profit that uses adventure racing as a vehicle to develop and grow a community of passionate outdoor enthusiasts. We partner with California-based businesses and local parks to help bring the outdoor experience to our community. In 2010, California ARA emerged as the sole organizing body for all California-based adventure race organizers through our establishment of the California Adventure Racing Championship series and the TriAdventure Challenge. In the past year, our camps, skills clinics, festivals and community outreach activities have allowed more than 2,000 people to experience the outdoors through adventure racing.

So far our success has relied on the dedication of volunteers. Our goal in 2011 is to secure corporate funding and sponsorship that will allow us to expand our participant base and broaden our positive impact in the outdoor endurance sports community.

Racing For A Flat Stomach

Many of our members have been relying adventure racing as their main way of exercising. As our members all have a healthy appearance, we recently discussed the topic of having a flat stomach. While having a flat and toned midsection certainly isn’t the staple of being healthy, it’s nice to have and can make adventure racing more rewarding to possess a flat stomach as a result.

We also discussed many of the popular supplements for a flat stomach, some of which do offer benefits. But many of them have wild claims which simply are not achievable. They are often overpriced and it’s better to seek out the basic and natural versions of their ingredients.

So all in all, some of the natural supplements can help to reduce bloating and ease the digestive system which makes running for long periods more comfortable. Perhaps in the future, we will write about our recommendations.

Here are a couple of things that can help you to gain a flat stomach.

Squat Shoes – Do You Need Them?

So many of our members are taking to squats to improve not only their leg strength but their entire body.

You know that you must have powerful, healthy legs to be able to log a good distance when racing. Many of us know that the benefits of deep squats are also numerous when it comes to running. However, what many people may not know is one of the very best strategies to ensure your thigh and glute strength is to add a few squats to your routine.

It can at times be tough to give up an afternoon of working to get an evening of strength training. But for us, the advantages of weightlifting outweighs the effort required to hit the gym.

Here, a fitness expert in our groups has broken down the advantages of exercises and whatever you want to learn about proper squats:

squat bar on back

The squat is much more than a workout; it is a means of life. You’ll find benefits from this exercise that you do not get from different lifts. When you are squatting heavy and lower the bar, you are placing yourself in danger’s way, however, you withstand it each time and stand straight up.

Many people love squats so much that they go all in and buy a set of squat shoes. These have a number of strong benefits but some people ask the question are squat shoes worth it?

Besides only strengthening the significant muscle groups utilized while racing and running and providing you overall better joints, squatting boasts a lot of different benefits also. A correct squat with proper form demands a good amount of versatility.

The quads are made of four main muscles in the leg and cause a large amount of movement in the leg. So they obviously play a big part when it comes to performance, which squatting will fortify and enhance.

While the exercise might seem to only function to workout the glute and leg muscles, they’re also an extraordinary core workout. A heavy squat needs strong abdominal bracing. Back stability is also essential.

Stronger legs also allow the entire body to dig deeper to the floor (hamstrings) and propel the body forward.

Squats improve jumping ability, but they also boost our capacity to generate power in many situations. Leg extension, flexion, and hip extension are key players when we are sprinting and transferring weight. You will not get overall body strength by dismissing the largest portion of your body, the lower extremities (legs).
